20 Masters of Wine from 10 different countries around the world visited our beloved Macedonia!

We were honored to welcome leading figures who shape global wine trends. Among them were influential professionals from wine distribution and import, the HORECA sector, major retail chains, and wine education.

The first day began on Sunday, June 15, with a walk-around tasting and dinner, joined by winemakers from Epirus and Macedonia.

The journey continued with visits to wineries that are members of our association, Winemakers of North Greece. Through numerous tastings and masterclasses, our distinguished guests had the opportunity to gain in-depth insights into viticulture and winemaking developments in Northern Greece — from the PDO and PGI zones to the diverse cultivated grape varieties.

Indigenous varieties—such as Assyrtiko, Malagousia, and Xinomavro—and rarer ones like Preknadi, Limnio, Vlachiko, Negoska, and Debina, along with international grapes such as Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Sauvignon Blanc, left a lasting impression. These tastings highlighted the remarkable progress and outstanding quality of Greek wines.

The Masters of Wine also had the chance to meet the people behind these wines, experience authentic Greek hospitality, savor regional gastronomy, and immerse themselves in the local culture of each place they visited.

The trip was organized by the Greek Wine Federation , in collaboration with the Institute of Masters of Wine, our association Winemakers of North Greece, and with the invaluable contribution of Greek Master of Wine Olga Karapanou Crawford — all united by a shared goal: to elevate the image of Greek wine in international markets.

As Eleni Sintou, President of the “Winemakers of North Greece”, stated:

” The visit of the Masters of Wine to Northern Greece left an excellent impression. They expressed admiration for the quality of our wines, and those who had visited Greece before spoke of remarkable progress on every level. They were captivated by our rare grape varieties, the consistency of our producers, and the authenticity of the Greek vineyard. Greek wine has all the potential to shine on the global stage. The next step is to enhance its international presence through smart and targeted marketing strategies.”
