Ktima Biblia Chora
tima Biblia Chora is located at the foothills of Mount Pangeon, in Kokkinochori village, in the Kavala region. The ancient winegrowing heritage and the ideal soil and climatic conditions inspired the oenologists Vangelis Gerovassiliou and Vassilis Tsaktsarlis, in 1998, to establish a 7ha organically cultivated vineyard, which today extends over 80ha.
In June 2001, construction of the modern winery began, and within the same year the first wines were vinified. The aim of the two winemakers is to produce wines of exceptional quality that bear the imprint of the Pangaion ecosystem and express its unique character.
The Estate’s name, Ktima Biblia Chora, “ktima” meaning “estate” in Greek, was proposed by Dr. Stavroula Kourakou-Dragona and is closely connected to the history of the region, which dates back to ancient times. When the Phoenicians, master seafarers and traders, came to Pangeon in search of precious metals, they inevitably contributed to the spread of vine cultivars and the art of winemaking. With them they brought a sacred vine known as “Biblia Ampelos” from the port city of Byblos in Phoenicia.
The ancient Greeks continued to cultivate this variety on the slopes of Mount Pangaion, producing the renowned “Biblinos Oinos” of antiquity. Over time, the area developed into an important viticultural center, known throughout all of Ancient Greece as “Biblia Chora”, meaning “Land of Biblia”, in Greek.

Continuous experimentation with Greek grape varieties takes place at the Estate in order to assess their adaptability to the region and evaluate their enological potential. Notably, great emphasis is also placed on cultivating certain rare, indigenous Greek varieties with the aim of reviving them. This effort has led to the creation of the wines Biblinos red and Biblinos rosé.
The vineyards are protected by the Mountain of Pangaion and Mountain Symbolo. The area borders the Strymonian Gulf and the Aegean Sea.
The climate is Mediterranean, characterised by mild winters and hot summers, influenced by sea breezes and colder air descending from the contours of Mount Pangeon at nighttime. Temperature differences between day and night extremes are large, which makes the grapes mature slowly. This effect benefits the style of wines by giving them a firm backbone, fresh natural acidity, tannic structure and a noble finesse.
