Akrathos Newlands Winery
krathos Newlands Winery was founded by a group of friends having Babis Bekris as the leading person and representative of the winery, since he was the connecting link and the dreamer of the greater idea to establish a winery in the shadow of Holly Mountain of Athos, in Eastern Halkidiki reviving the winemaking tradition in the birthplace of Aristotle.
In 2010 the first hectare of organic vines was planted, in 2014 the plantings were completed and the winery started being constructed. During its first decade of operation “Akrathos Newlands Winery” has made its mark having as major principles sustainable winemaking and high-quality grape production. In a magical scenery with amazing soils and an ideal climate, 30.000 bottles of wine are produced on average each year, solely from the privately owned organic vineyards of the winery.

The Vineyards are located on slopes of eastern exposure, facing the North Aegean Sea. The soils are sandy clay on a multilayered schist subsoil. The vineyards are sun-kissed 300 days a year, and the 600 meters of altitude and the north winds help the health and slow ripening of the grapes, creating fruit concentration and, therefore, producing the highest grape quality. The vineyards are situated around the winery which is extremely important for the fast handling of the grapes during the harvest period, one additional factor which leads to fine wine making.
The region of Eastern Halkidiki which belongs to ‘Dimos Aristoteli’ (municipality of Aristotle) has a rich morphological variety (sea and mountains) as well as flora and fauna, forests and wild animals. The seashore exceeds 240 km and gives the characteristics of an island. Fishery, Olive oil making, Beekeeping, and Cheesemaking are activities, along with Winemaking maintaining the region’s gastronomic tradition.
Furthermore, the area has a long and significant history with the Ancient Akanthus famous for the production of the Akanthius Wine, and the Ancient Stagira the birthplace of Aristotle, and of course the religious landmark of Agio Oros (Mount Athos), which attract a large number of eco travellers from around the world.
‘Akrathos Newlands Winery’ team consists of locals who know the place and unique characteristics of each vineyard extremely well and, therefore, work in the winery and the field. Last but not least, the team is led by world-class specialists in viticulture and oenology who share their know-how and their lifelong experience. The ‘blending’ of all these people is inspired by their love and their passion for wine.
