ESTATES COSTA LAZARIDI

Winery

Estates Costa Lazaridi were born from the vision of Costas Lazaridi to place the wines of Drama on the global wine map and to share with the world the uniqueness of the region and its terroir. Costas Lazaridis, the father of modern winemaking in Drama, laid the foundations of modern viticulture in the area and later expanded to Attica with the Oenotria Land Estate.

It all began in 1979 with the planting of the first modern vineyard of 10 hectares with Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Assyrtiko, varieties that remain to this day the main grapes cultivated on the slopes of Drama.

Today, the vineyards of Estates Costa Lazaridi are spread over four areas, making use of the microclimate of the Drama region and covering a total of 280 hectares, reaching altitudes of up to 900 meters. With respect to the environment, we take full advantage of the dynamic terroir of the region by applying integrated management standards that ensure high-quality grapes, following the philosophy that great wines are born in the vineyard.

Vinification takes place in our modern facilities, under the supervision of our experienced oenologists. Our multi-awarded wines belong to the Amethystos, Château Julia, and Domaine Costa Lazaridi family. In addition, Estates Costa Lazaridi produce the traditional tsipouro and ouzo Idoniko, the Methexis distillates, and Aceto Botanico balsamic vinegars.

Exports, a key priority and goal of our winery, bring our products to 24 countries around the world.

At the beginning of the millennium, the construction of the “Oenotria Land” complex in Kapandriti, Attica, began, and was completed in 2006. It includes multiple spaces for social and corporate events, a conference center and the unique Costas Lazaridis Wine Museum. On the shores of Lake Marathon is the 200-acre organic vineyard from which the “Oenotria Land” red wines of the same name are produced.

Our winery in Drama is open to the public from Monday to Friday. The visitor will be guided through the aging areas of the red wines, admire the corridor with the marble sculptures and then can taste representative labels of the Estate in the tasting room. All the Estate’s products are available at special prices.

The region’s balanced continental climate, with the Mount Falakro, Menoikio and Orvilos and the valleys of Drama, create a unique microclimate that allows grapes to develop distinct aromas, grow with minimal intervention, and express the true character of the terroir and the varieties.

Our private vineyards are next to Natura 2000 habitats, where native plants and wildlife thrive. The vines grow not in isolation, but in dialogue with a living ecosystem. Since 1979, at Estates Costa Lazaridi, we proudly carry this heritage forward.

Cultivating with purpose

The estate’s vineyards, located on the slopes of Drama and by Lake Marathon in Kapandriti, Attica, have received Regenerative Viticulture certification, making Estates Costa Lazaridi the first winery in Greece with this internationally recognized distinction. Alongside global pioneers such as Familia Torres, Clos Mogador, and Domaine Mirabeau, Estates Costa Lazaridi is helping shape a more sustainable future for Greek wine.

Regenerative viticulture is an approach that not only protects but actively improves the vineyard ecosystem, supporting both the quality and the future of our wines, as well as the land itself. It is not just a farming method, but a philosophy rooted in respect for nature—one that lies at the heart of who we are. In both Drama and our certified organic vineyards in Attica, our vineyards are living, evolving ecosystems that work in harmony with their environment.
Since 1979, when Costas Lazaridis first put Drama on the global wine map, the estate has continued to innovate while staying true to a philosophy that balances progress with respect for the land. This Regenerative Viticulture certification reflects a broader strategy focused on sustainability, quality, and the future of Greek wine, while also reducing the company’s environmental footprint.

Led by Gerasimos and Giorgos Lazaridis, Estates Costa Lazaridi continues its steady path of growth and innovation, with a clear vision for a more sustainable future for Greek wine.
